Building (Web) Applications in 2009
Thinking about it for the whole evening: the most common and most important metaphors learned by all of us on an OS desktop suck big time in 2009 and only work in a non-connected and low-information world.
Folders? Can you organize your data in specific folders? I can’t. Piles of Windows? I don’t need them, switching confuses me and helps me unfocus. Asynchronous or timed behavior? Ever seen anything that handles that well? I don’t.
I need to think more about that.

I want tags in the filesystem! Folders are good for some basic hierarchy, though.

Reminds me of Amy Hoy’s session at JSConf.eu 2009. She said that most of the UI elements suck and that we should use other (better!) techniques more often in web applications. Unfortunately she hasn’t uploaded her presentation yet…
Perhaps we have to wait for Google to open our eyes?
